The Dark Eye - Inrah for Beginners

Inrah is a set of cards which is being used by fortunetellers in Aventuria, a continent in the world of The Dark Eye. It consists of 121 cards, showing motifs from Aventurian mythology and everyday life.

This set of cards (English version) for beginners includes all cards you need for your fortunetelling, including keyword lists and cheat sheets on cards with a little dictionary of meanings (without entitlement to completeness).

Unlike the official 2010 Inrah card game (Thomas Römer, Caryad, Mia Steingräber), which is unfortunately out of print, these cards are not full color illustrated. They are deliberately kept simple, aiming for a more handmade look. This card set can not and should not replace the official Inrah game. This one is published (and translated) in the hope that the art of fortunetelling with Inrah will not be forgotton among TDE 5 players and other newcomers.

If players are interested in this set, I might supplement it with more motifs or motive & layout variants. For me this is a first try (with Scriptorium Aventuris and the layout software I've used) and I'm curious what you think about it.

I hope you enjoy this package!

Since I don't want you to buy a pig in a poke, have a look at the previews, please. :)

1) Print sheets for 121 cards (+ alternative versions of 55 of these cards)
2) Print sheets for 21 cheat cards with meanings
3) Print sheets for additional empty cards in the same design
for your own motif and symbol ideas
4) A zip with the individual card images

These cards have the standard Aventuria card
dimensions and should be printed or pasted onto
thick paper (200-300g).

July 15, 2018: Added zip file with individual card images

Some of you may want to use these Inrah cards in a tool like Roll20. I've included seperate images of the individual cards as jpg in a zip file, so you can use them more easily.

June 5, 2018: 5 spreads + ideas for using the cards as "tools of the gamemaster"

Addition of more cheat cards showing spreads (laying patterns) and their meaning/interpretation. I also added a cheat card with ideas for the gamemaster for alternative uses of this set. For example for character creation, adventure design or visualization of dream symbols. So if this "Aventurian Tarot" is a bit too esoteric for you, maybe you can still have fun with this card set.

June 2, 2018: alternative Arcana & court cards

The first add-on with adjusted Arcana- and court cards. These Arcana cards, which represent aspects of Aventurian gods or half-gods are not inscribed with the names of the aspects, but with the names of the gods. The adjustment of the court cards is rather subtle but should help to distinguish them a bit better.

A german version of this Inrah set is available via the german Scriptorium Aventuris platform.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
